DES MOINES, Iowa (KTTC) – Harvest Season is officially kicking into high gear across our area, bringing a safety warning for both farmers and rural drivers
Iowa agricultural officials are reminding drivers to expect slow-moving combines and grain carts on two-lane country roads over the coming weeks
Drivers should stay patient, leave plenty of following distance and watch out for wide turns
State leaders are also reminding farmers to manage fatigue and prioritize mental wellness as long hours and economic pressures mount in the fields
“Harvest is an exciting time of year, but the long hours, heavy equipment and increased activity on our rural roads mean everyone needs to keep safety top of mind,” said Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig. “Farmers should take the time to work safely, get enough rest and look out for one another. Drivers can do their part by slowing down, putting away distractions and being patient when they encounter farm equipment on the road.”
This year’s National Farm Safety and Health Week theme, “Safety Today, Success Tomorrow,” highlights the importance of making safety and well-being a priority every day
