Exercise is important, and so is recovery. Experts say smarter recovery improves performance, reduces injury, and creates lasting fitness results. Training, fitness expert says, breaks the body down. Recovery builds it back stronger
Every squat, sprint, and press creates microscopic muscle damage that signals growth. Kushal Pal Singh, Fitness and Performance Expert, Anytime Fitness India, in conversation with Moneycontrol, shared how the real edge is shifting from overtraining to intelligent recovery
The gym floor may reward effort, but the body rewards restoration. Singh informed, “Recovery is not a break from progress. It is part of the progress itself. When sleep, nutrition, hydration, movement, and mental calm work together, the body responds with strength and resilience.”
Without it, he said, even the best training plan begins to fail silently. “Elite athletes already treat recovery as seriously as training, scheduling rest days with intention rather than guilt,” told Singh
The future of fitness is no longer just about pushing harder, but about recovering smarter, consistently, and sustainably over time. As per Singh, progress is not built in exhaustion, but in recovery between sessions where adaptation truly happens and long term results are secured
Understanding this shift is what separates temporary fitness from lifelong health and performance. “It is a mindset change that turns rest into strategy, not weakness, and builds consistency that lasts for years ahead.,” he said and shared a few effective tips to boost recovery
Get sufficient sleep
Sleep remains the most powerful and overlooked recovery tool. During deep sleep, growth hormones repair tissue and restore energy. Sleep seven to nine hours nightly; recovery peak happens here
Power with protein
Eat protein in every meal to repair muscle tissue. Protein rebuilds muscle
Carbohydrates matter too
Add carbohydrates post-workout to refill energy stores. Carbohydrates restore glycogen
Stay hydrated
Drink water consistently; even mild dehydration slows recovery. Water keeps systems balanced
Simple exercises
Include active recovery like walking or stretching to boost circulation. Try yogaor mobility work to reduce stiffness and improve flexibility
