A recent fundraiser in Abbotsford raised more than $63,000 for mental health support
BeMorr Society held its fifth annual Hawaiian Shirt Gala on Sept. 26 at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre
Money raised at the event goes toward the organization’s Mental Wellness Program, helping individuals and families access counselling and mental wellness services when they need them most
“Raising over $63,000 is an incredible achievement, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible,” said Anne-Mari Morrison, executive director of BeMorr Society
“Behind every dollar is the opportunity to help someone access counselling, find support during a difficult time, and know they are not alone.”
BeMorr Society was founded by the family of Brook Morrison, who took his own life in September 2020 at the age of 26
Brook loved Hawaiian shirts and the joy of bringing people together, inspiring the society’s signature annual fundraiser
Now in its sixth year, BeMorr Society continues to respond to the growing need for accessible mental wellness support
Through its Mental Wellness Program, the organization connects eligible individuals with counselling support and works to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent people from seeking help
Anne-Mari – Brook’s mom – said the Hawaiian Shirt Gala would not be possible without the generosity of the sponsors, donors and local businesses who contributed prizes and auction items; the volunteers who gave their time; the entertainers and special guests who shared their talents and stories; and everyone who attended
“We know that mental health does not discriminate, and too many people struggle silently because they cannot afford the help they need,” she said
“These funds allow us to continue our work, reach more individuals and families, and help people access support before they reach a crisis point.”
