OPELOUSAS, La. (Acadiana News First) – Opelousas General Health System held its annual Paint the Town Pink Luncheon at Evangeline Downs to celebrate breast cancer survivors and close out Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The luncheon brought Breast Cancer Awareness Month to a close with a fashion show that recognized local cancer fighters on Friday, Oct. 30
Opelousas General Health System put on the event as part of a larger initiative to promote breast cancer education and provide screenings to people who need them
“Because most people in St. Landry Parish have been touched by some by breast cancer in some form or fashion, whether it be from themselves or a loved one,” Olivia Buller, foundation coordinator for Opelousas General Health System, said. “So, it’s really important to our community. It’s the one we probably see the most community support for. And it’s very empowering to those who’ve experienced breast cancer.”
Paint the Town Pink provides free mammograms and breast screenings year-round for men and women in the community who are at risk of breast cancer
