BIXBY, Okla. –
A new event in Bixby is hoping to bring people together for an afternoon focused on mental health awareness and community support
Founder Darcy Linam said the event is designed to make mental health retime together
The free event will include a short walk, therapy dogs, mental health re
Linam also organized a dedicated area for men, where attendees can play cornhole, toss a football and pick up self-care items
“You can’t support the mental health of an entire community if you leave part of that community out,” Linam said
She said the goal is to create a setting where men can participate without feeling like they are entering a traditional mental health environment
Linam said the event is intended for everyone, including people who may not personally struggle with their mental health
“Maybe leave knowing how to better support someone in your life who is struggling,” Linam said
She said checking in with someone and being willing to listen can make a difference for a person who is struggling
The event will also give attendees an opportunity to learn about local mental health re
Linam said her colleagues at Brighter Dimensions have supported her efforts to bring the event to Bixby
She hopes the first Wellness Walk will become an annual event and give people a comfortable place to continue conversations about mental health
The Bixby Wellness Walk is free and will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Charlie Young Park in Bixby
