(WDBJ) – A study in the United Kingdom found that AI chatbots gave dangerous medical advice to sleep apnea patients. In a third of cases, chatbots wrongly told patients that their symptoms were not serious, which experts warn could discourage them from seeing a specialist. Researchers said if a patient is already reluctant to see a doctor, AI technology is more likely to agree with them and reinforce that belief.

A Stanford Medicine study found that adding health warning labels could reduce young people’s use of social media. Teens who were given warning messages about the possible mental health harms of social media said they were less likely to use apps. Four states have already passed laws requiring warnings. Social media use has been linked to depression, anxiety and sleep disruption

New research presented at the European Respiratory Society conference found that smoking leads to increased loneliness. People who smoked became lonelier than those who didn’t, with culture and social norms potentially being to blame. Smoking also made it more difficult for people to access and participate in social activities
