What self-care practices help you stay grounded during stressful academic periods?

My go-to method for self-care is breathing meditations on YouTube. Feeling my nervous
system regulate as I continue the practice always grounds me in times of panics, especially
having multiple classes with multiple exams!

What strategies do you use to manage stress during exams or clinical rotations?

Utilizing our awesome professors is an excellent way to manage stress. Not only are
they here to eventually see us become coworkers, but they care deeply about our mental
health and academic success. Talk to your teachers, clinical instructors, and friends:
we’re all humans trying to get by.

How do you reset after a particularly challenging clinical day?

I set all school/work-related things aside and do things that give me true rest. So,
depending on the day, that might look like taking a nap, going to a park (Finlay Park
is awesome), spending time in a chapel (St. Thomas More!), and talking with friends/family

What advice would you give to someone who feels alone or overwhelmed in the program?

My advice would be to turn to sincerity. I think it is important to start by being
honest with yourself. Whether someone is overwhelmed by everything going on, feeling
a lack of control, has some personal shortcoming, etc., I think real progress starts
by being honest about it. After this step, I think it is easier to see reality (e.g.,
the struggle of the present will pass, whether in a semester or a week) and take small,
concrete action (for example, striking up a conversation with a classmate you haven’t
really talked to yet). We are all walking this journey together!

How has your approach to mental wellness changed since starting nursing school?

Since starting nursing school, I have realized that I must stay on top of my work
in order to manage my stress and wellbeing. Although I am very easy going, when I
do feel stressed, I usually manage it by taking naps, spending time with friends,
or giving myself time to unwind. Nursing school has helped me recognize how important
it is to listen to my body and take breaks when I need them. Maintaining balance through
rest and social support has been key in my mental wellbeing while keeping up with
    my responsibilities.

I would recommend checking out the Counseling Services through Student Health and Well-Being. They offer individual counseling, group counseling, and workshops to help with stress,
anxiety, or general support. You can schedule appointments through My Health Space
