WASHINGTON (KKTV) – On Monday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced $96.7 million worth of grants and cooperative agreements providing funding for behavioral health services
That includes money earmarked for:
- Unhoused people with “serious mental illness”
- Suicide prevention
- Substance use disorder treatment
- Training and technical assistance
- Peer support
- Disaster-related emotional support
The Colorado State Department of Human Services is set to receive $1,135,245 in funds to help people transition out of homelessness. The programs funds screenings, treatment, rehabilitation, referrals for health care, job training, education, and housing, and a range of other interventions
The Colorado Mental Wellness Network, based in Denver, is expected to receive $150,000. The grant is designed to “strengthen the capacity and sustainability of statewide mental health peer-run organizations.”
“By expanding access to treatment, strengthening the behavioral health workforce, and supporting communities on the front lines, we are helping more Americans move from crisis to stability and toward lasting recovery,” said Christopher D. Carroll with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
