Samsung Galaxy Watch can help you keep an eye on blood sugar health even if you do not wear a continuous glucose monitor

Galaxy Watch7 and later supported models track a body process linked to how sugar interacts with proteins and fats over time. Samsung Health records that measurement as AGEs Index

If glucose awareness is part of your smartwatch decision, this feature adds a specific reason to look closer. Understanding what it measures, how it differs from glucose tracking, and who may benefit can help you decide whether it belongs in your health routine

How Galaxy Watch measures AGEs overnight

AGEs, short for advanced glycation end products, are compounds that build up when sugar attaches to proteins and fats in the body. Blood sugar and other health factors can affect how much of these compounds accumulate

Samsung uses its redesigned BioActive Sensor to generate the AGEs Index. The smartwatch takes optical measurements from your skin during sleep and records them in the Samsung Health app. No manual nightly test is required, but regular overnight wear gives the app enough data to establish your history

You also need Samsung Health 6.27 or later, Android 10 or later, a Samsung account, and an internet connection. Availability may vary by market

A CGM tracks glucose throughout the day, so it can record a rise after lunch or a drop during exercise. AGEs develop over a longer period

One meal-related spike may appear immediately on your CGM without changing the AGEs measurement collected that night. Stable glucose today can also appear with a higher AGEs result because the index reflects compounds formed earlier

Food, age, and other metabolic factors can affect AGE accumulation as well. Samsung, however, cannot trace a movement in the index back to one meal or specific activity

Samsung Health lets you review AGEs Index beside health tools such as Food tracker and Barcode Scanning for meals, Bedtime Guidance and Sleep Coaching for sleep, High Stress Alert for stress, and Workout detection and Running Coach for activity

Reviewing the same period across these records can show whether your AGEs history changed around the time your routine changed. You might notice an overlap with disrupted sleep, reduced activity, or different eating habits

A persistent change can prompt you to review your routine or ask whether glucose testing is appropriate

Blood sugar awareness without another wearable sensor

A CGM can provide detailed glucose readings, but not everyone wants continuous numbers or another device attached to their body. Sensors require recurring purchases and replacement, and some users experience adhesive irritation, discomfort, alarm fatigue, or anxiety from constant data

Galaxy Watch’s AGEs Index offers a lighter-touch option for people who are curious about metabolic health but do not need medical glucose monitoring. You wear the watch as usual, and the BioActive Sensor collects the measurement. There is no extra patch to apply and no stream of glucose alerts to manage

This advanced feature is what Samsung can offer today without another body-worn sensor. The company is also developing CGM-linked nutrition coaching and noninvasive glucose technology for future devices, which could eventually bring more direct glucose information into the Galaxy Watch experience

When you need an actual blood sugar result, use an authorized glucose monitor or blood test. The FDA warns against watches and rings that claim to measure glucose independently without piercing the skin

Galaxy Watch’s AGEs Index feature may suit you if you want blood sugar health to stay on your radar without taking on continuous monitoring. People who need live glucose readings can use a CGM alongside the watch, while anyone seeking a lower-maintenance form of metabolic awareness may find the feature easier to fit into everyday life
