In India, we often see people questioning or judging someone for sleeping peacefully. However, it looks like people are now talking about this issue. A video caught attention online where a content creator opened up about “sleep shaming” and explained why people should stop judging others for sleeping. Read to know more!

    What Is Sleep Shaming?

Kanish Batra (@kaybalancelife) recently took to social media to talk about the term “sleep shaming”. In the video, he mentioned how in India, people often turn off the fan, open the curtains and do many other things to wake someone up. They may also question how long a person sleeps and treat waking up at 6 AM as an achievement

However, psychology and sleep science tell a different story about sleep. According to Kanish, sleeping does not mean being lazy. Instead, it allows the mind and body to get the rest they need

Waking Up Late Does Not Mean Lack Of Discipline

As per psychology and sleep science, everyone’s sleep requirements and schedules can be different. Some people naturally wake up early, while others prefer to wake up later. Waking up late does not necessarily mean a person lacks discipline. It can simply be part of their natural sleep pattern

The Indian Express reported that Dr Neetu Jain said adults generally need around 7-9 hours of quality sleep. Not getting enough sleep can affect concentration, decision-making, and emotions. Over time, lack of sleep can also be linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, weaker immunity, anxiety and other health issues. A person’s sleep cycle can also change with age, hormones and other factors.

So, if you ever see someone sleeping peacefully, maybe let them sleep and get the rest their body needs!
